Exploring What’s New in Canva

What is Canva’s new Dream Lab? What does it do differently from its previous Magic Studios addition?

If you’re like me, Canva is a staple in making my projects, both personal and work related, have a creative, colorful flare to them. Canva not only has many templates to choose from in terms of slide decks, but also templates for social posts, videos, documents and more.

Since Canva acquired AI image generating platform, Leonardo AI, there have been some design upgrades to what Canva has to offer its users. One of these game-changing features is Canva’s Deam Lab.

The Dream Lab is located at the bottom of the menu on the left-hand side of the platform:

The Dream Lab incorporates the traditional Leonardo image generation within the Canva platform. The possibilities for images stretch as far as your imagination can take you, allowing you to create images for both professional and personal use. You can create fun, cartoon-like images like this giraffe.

However, I was curious on how I could use an image for more professional usage and inputted the following prompt, “Create an image that involves a robot helping a client with their day-to-day work.” The outputs were as follows:

The quality of these images is very impressive, likely due to the help of Leonardo, especially in terms of the human features. I am excited to see how I can mix more AI images into my work.

One of my first thoughts when exploring Dream Labs was, why is the Dream Lab necessary when there are already plenty of outside platforms that can do the same image generation? However, I quickly came to realize that having this feature in the same browser and platform where I make my deck is incredibly efficient and helps when keeping my desktop organized. Canva has become more than just a place to make a slide deck, but a place where you can push your ideas and creativity and implement them in different public facing forms.

Canva is adapting its platform to the behavior of digital users and the results are giving us something that we didn’t even know we needed! I can’t wait to see what’s next for Canva.
