Samsung Electronics, the leading South Korean smartphone manufacturer, is set to introduce a cutting-edge real-time translation service integrated with AI technology in the coming year, according to a report by AFP.
The real-time translation feature is slated to debut in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy flagship model, scheduled for an early release in 2024. This functionality will facilitate instant translation in both audio and text formats during phone calls, irrespective of the number of languages supported, which remains undetermined at this stage.
Crucially, the translation service will function seamlessly even if the call recipient is using a non-Samsung smartphone. This interoperability is achieved through the utilization of “on-device AI technology.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5 (L) and Z Flip5 (R) smartphones are displayed at a Samsung Electronics store in Seoul on October 31, 2023. South Korea’s Samsung Electronics said on October 31 that its operating profits for the July to September period were down 77.57 percent from the year before, even as new smartphone releases boosted revenue.
AI Live Translate Call
Samsung’s press release highlighted that conversing with someone in a different language using this AI feature would be as straightforward as enabling closed captions while streaming shows. Importantly, private conversations conducted through this translation service will be securely contained within the phones.
“AI Live Translate Call will soon give users with the latest Galaxy AI phone a personal translator whenever needed. Because it’s integrated into the native call feature, the hassle of using third-party apps is gone, Samsung said in an official announcement.
“Audio and text translations will appear in real-time as you speak, making calling someone who speaks another language about as simple as turning on closed captions when you stream a show.”
This announcement coincides with Samsung’s ongoing efforts to develop its generative AI model known as Samsung Gauss. Operating in three languages, code, and image-Gauss are already in use among the company’s staff.
Samsung plans to integrate this AI system into various products in the near future, although specific details regarding timing and supported models are yet to be disclosed.

Wonjoon Choi, Executive Vice President and Head of Research and Development for the Mobile experience Business at Samsung, highlighted the transformative capacity of Galaxy AI.
He stated that Galaxy AI represents their most extensive intelligence offering to date. Samsung sees Galaxy AI as a driving force in dismantling barriers to social connection, aiming to enhance the accessibility and productivity of communication.
