Double Whammy: SixFifty’s AI Tool + Epiq’s New AI Abilities

Here’s a double legal AI news blast.

SixFifty Launches AI Employment Research Tool

SixFifty, a HR compliance system backed by Wilson Sonsini, has announced the launch of ‘SixFifty AI’, a research tool that increases the accessibility of the company’s major employment database.

SixFifty AI, which is currently in beta and available for free to customers, offers nationwide US coverage, spanning all federal laws, all 50 states, D.C., and major cities. It provides ‘immediate answers across thousands of topics,’ they said, including:

‘Hiring: Pay transparency, drug testing, notices, posters, and training;
Leave and EEO policies: FMLA, paid leave, sick leave, accommodations, and protected characteristics;
Wage and hour: Overtime, minimum wage, and pay frequency;
Separation: Final paycheck requirements, WARN Act.’
Each query answered by SixFifty AI also includes links to source entries in SixFifty’s Research module so users can verify the accuracy of the response for themselves.

In short, it’s another example of applying LLMs to legal data and getting a lot of value from it.

Kimball Dean Parker, founder and CEO of SixFifty, said: ‘We’ve dedicated years to summarizing and organizing employment laws across the country into the most comprehensive database of employment law information available. With SixFifty AI, HR and legal teams can quickly find clear, straightforward answers to their most common questions.’

Epiq Rolls Out Expanded GenAI Capabilities

Multi-capability legal group Epiq has announced an expanded set of genAI skills as part of its Epiq Service Cloud, which is a legal tech and human services platform for inhouse teams and law firms. Building on Microsoft and Amazon (AWS) AI capabilities, such as Azure OpenAI and AWS Anthropic Claude, they will now offer:

‘Multiple Large Language Models (LLMs), including private hosting of custom LLMs
Private, secure, and customizable AI applications for document summarization, image narration, and classification and sentiment analysis
Epiq AI skills available as private APIs, enhancing security
Flexible development options with the use of any vector database, embeddings model, or LLM
Frameworks to develop prompt management libraries
Additional security and privacy through role-based access controls and reporting
Live performance metrics, alerting, and detailed telemetry
Private logging of user activity to ensure safety reportability and AI security
Options to deploy in any public or private cloud, including the Epiq Service Cloud or on premise.’
Epiq has already created multiple AI applications leveraging the Epiq Service Cloud AI Platform, including Image Narration, Summarization, and Sentiment Analysis, they noted.

And as with above, it’s another example of taking LLMs, applying them to legal matters, and getting a lot back. That’s the thing with genAI – it delivers value very quickly, and very tangibly.

Eric Crawley, SVP, Product Management and Advanced Solutions, Epiq, commented: ‘With the Epiq Service Cloud’s AI Platform, in combination with our services, we are eliminating the challenges of deploying and maintaining AI. Our clients trust us with their AI transformations and it’s exciting to see the results they’re delivering.’
