TVBEurope Poll: ‘It’s Still Too Early to Tell’ The Impact Of AI On Media And Entertainment

A poll carried out by TVBEurope has revealed most people working in media and broadcast think it’s too early to tell what impact AI technology is having on the industry.

As part of our AI: from hype to reality webinar, hosted in conjunction with TV Tech and Avid, we asked the audience which of the following statements best reflects their current view on artificial intelligence (AI) technology in broadcast and media.

The audience was given five options:

AI technology is transforming the creative process
AI technology is transforming the economics of the media industry
AI technology is mostly hype and will settle down into “just another tool”
AI technology is leading to new competition for the established media industry
It’s still too early to tell what impact AI technology is really having on our business

Too early to tell was the most popular response, receiving 35 per cent of the votes cast, followed by AI is transforming the creative process with 23 per cent.

AI tech is transforming the economics of the industry received 17 per cent, followed by AI is leading to new competition for the established media industry with 13 per cent. The idea that AI is mostly hype and will settle down as just another tool received the lowest number of votes at just 9 per cent.

The webinar also delved into the industry survey carried out by Caretta Research on behalf of TVBEurope and TV Tech earlier in the summer.

Media and broadcast companies reveal confidence in AI technology

The panel included Robert Ambrose, co-founder of Caretta Research, Avid product evangelist Craig Wilson, and president of the Hollywood Professional Association, Seth Hallen.

Topics covered included which areas of production AI is currently having the most impact on, why technology buyers want AI as part of their standards tools, and why AI needs people.

The full webinar is available to watch here.

A second event, looking at the impact of AI on the newsroom will take place on Tuesday, 3rd December at 3pm GMT. Speakers include Jon Roberts, director of technology, production and innovation, ITN, Rowan de Pomeria, CEO, The DPP, and Craig Wilson. Register for free now.
