AI, Creativity, and Impact – Magnus Dey Unveils Secrets to Marketing Success at Mentorship Sessions Ep. 12

The final episode of the Mentorship Sessions, Studio Edition, featured Magnus Dey, the Marketing Manager for BLOW Group. With an MBA and a wealth of experience in marketing and sales, Magnus has excelled in strategic direction, content creation, and brand positioning.

Magnus began by emphasising the importance of innovation in marketing, particularly leveraging artificial intelligence (AI). He explained how AI plays a vital role in the entire product lifecycle – from production and distribution to marketing and even disposal.

Sharing his academic journey, Magnus recalled his time at Mawuli School, where he was a highly focused student driven by his goal to secure a government scholarship. He was part of a group that founded the Mawuli Business Association, which fostered their entrepreneurial skills. Surrounded by like-minded, driven friends who also earned scholarships, Magnus excelled academically, securing his place at the University of Ghana, Legon.

During his time at Legon, he took on several leadership roles, including serving as a music director, drawing on his talent for playing instruments and teaching choirs. He even composed music for both school and church, demonstrating his passion for the arts alongside his academic pursuits.

Magnus underscored the creative power everyone possesses and the need to harness it, explaining that artistic talent can complement success in STEM fields. He also highlighted the critical role of communication in marketing, whether through billboards, television, or print media.

“The font size and style you choose determine the target market you are advertising to. Consistency in font style and size is crucial for appealing to your audience. Similarly, the colours, shapes, and sizes you choose for your product packaging speak volumes. You can have an excellent product, but without the right marketing strategy, it will remain on the shelves,” he stated.

Magnus elaborated on how AI can analyse various products and deliver tailored results, making it an indispensable tool in modern marketing. He discussed the importance of targeted marketing strategies, such as experiential stands and on-ground promotions, which help connect directly with audiences.

He also delved into the role of STEM professionals in quality assurance, detailing how they assess factors like weight, sugar levels, size, and quantity, often involving laboratory work to ensure products meet the required standards.

Additionally, Magnus touched on the growing trend of using skits and comedy to promote products and services, encouraging individuals to pursue what they are passionate about. He reassured the audience that AI is not replacing jobs but rather creating opportunities by simplifying tasks and boosting efficiency.

Magnus highlighted BLOW Group’s commitment to sustainability, particularly their recycling efforts. He explained how the company’s water division employs thousands of young people to collect plastic waste, which is then recycled. Plans are underway to scale these efforts and recycle all plastics in Ghana.

In his closing remarks, Magnus discussed BLOW Group’s investment in mental health advocacy. He noted the stigma surrounding mental health issues and shared that the company launched a campaign last year encouraging people to seek help and break the cycle of stigma. As part of this initiative, they made donations to Pantang Hospital to support patients in the mental health ward.
