Pro-Ject Audio Systems has announced its latest Flagship turntable: The Signature 12.2. Weighing in at a hefty 80 pounds, the Signature 12.2 turntable utilizes a 12-inch tonearm that uses a unique 3-point pivot for extra stability.

Contributing to that 80 pounds total weight is the Signature 12.2’s high-mass record platter, which itself weighs more than 23 pounds. This provides the turntable with additional mass for vibration dampening, with TPE-dampening on the underside and an integrated vinyl mat on top further minimizing distortions.
In addition, Pro-Ject loads turntable’s anti-resonant MDF plinth with steel pellets, which the company states draws resonance away from the platter and cartridge. The conical, spring-loaded feet, Pro-Ject underscores are not only serve as isolators, but they also contribute to a sprightliness in sound quality the company claims that suspended deck turntables offer.
The Signature 12.2 Provides a Rock-Solid Base for Fine-Tuning Music
In a bid to make its latest turntable friendlier in terms of making adjustments, Pro-Ject says it has simplified anti-skate and counterweight options to offer finer degrees of adjustment. The turntable’s (vertical tracking angle ) VTA is also adjustable with a single thumb screw.
Additionally, the devices comes with a removable headshell that Pro-Ject says it designed specifically for custom cartridge installations, allowing ardent audiophiles to install the phono cartridges of their choice.

Some of the turntable’s other technical features include a design that to relieve tension on the bearing employs a magnet around the inverted bearing that opposes another magnet embedded in the plinth to encircle the stainless steel shaft.
Pro-Ject suggests the Signature 12.2 turntable’s platter bearing is a flawless ceramic ball allowing for smooth and silent rotation. The motors and circuitry the company continues, come encased in a full aluminum motor bock to improve isolation of the electronics. The turntable’s flywheel system was also designed with isolation and speed stability in mind.
Pro-Ject’s stresses the Signature 12.2 also incorporates its DC-driven AC generator that is engineered to deliver clean, steady power to the AC motors with options for 33 and 45 RPM electronic speed.
Available now, the the Signature 12.2 retails at an MSRP of $14,999 (without any cartridge) and is purchasable on the Pro-Ject website.
The Signature 12.2 joins a long lineup of turntable releases from Pro-Ject this year which includes the XA B, the Debut EVO 2, the T1 EVO, and, most recently, the Classic Reference. McIntosh Group, of which Pro-Ject falls under, also partnered up with ProSource as of March 2024, granting ProSource members access to Pro-Ject’s catalog of analog audio players.
