Microsoft May Adopt “Windows Intelligence” Branding For Windows AI Features

Microsoft certainly got a serious case of AI fever in recent years, putting lots of resources (and money) into the AI arms race hoping it’ll beat its major rivals, including Google, Meta, and even Apple. While Apple is very adamant on calling its AI features “Apple Intelligence”, Microsoft seemingly wants to one-up Cupertino by potentially rebranding its Windows AI features under the “Windows Intelligence” banner.

“Windows Intelligence”

This information stemmed from user @teroalhonen on X (Twitter), who discovered references to the name “Windows Intelligence” in the appprivacy.adml file. Specifically, the string reads: “Let Apps Access Windows Intelligence”. This setting implies that Microsoft intends to double down and further integrate AI features into Windows operating system, and possibly opening up for third-party apps to tap into its resources as well.

Exactly why a rebrand is warranted is anyone’s guess, but it’s probably safe to say that it doesn’t hurt to follow what Apple does (as with many things in the tech industry, be it good or bad ones) when it comes to marketing a feature, and that’s despite the company being late to the AI party compared to others.

For your information – this is not the first time Microsoft’s AI features has gone through a rebrand. Remember when Copilot used to be called Bing Chat? It turns out Bing’s perception is bad enough that Microsoft decided to move away from it to not hurt its chances, but this next re-branding effort is an intriguing one, to say the least.
