How to ensure AI doesn’t take your job

In the latest Insurance Post Podcast, Ian Simons, content and capabilities director of the Chartered Insurance Institute, said those without the skills to work with artificial intelligence are at greater risk of redundancy than those who know how to make the most of this technology.

Simons plus Peter Farrelly, chief operating officer of Sedgwick, and Andy Moss, CEO of Send Technology, examine how roles in the sector could change with AI and what underwriters, claims handlers, loss adjusters, etc, can do to develop their skills and knowledge to retain a place in the industry.

Pointing to the CII’s Professional Map, a competency framework and career development tool that helps individuals identify training needs and to prepare for the way AI could transform ways of working, Simons said: “Right now there isn’t a clear set of defined roles that will be removed from the system.
“With any new technology it is about improving productivity both an individual and organisation level.
“Anyone investing in those [AI] skills has a better chance of retaining that role for the long-term.”
Farrelly said a constant discussion about career frameworks and how technology will impact development is important.
He said: “You need to understand the introduction of technology is aimed at improving the colleague and customer experience.”
