Streamlined onboarding and advanced driver/passenger classification algorithms drive telematics program engagement and adoption
October 21, 2024, Cambridge, MA — Cambridge Mobile Telematics (CMT), the world’s largest telematics service provider, today has unveiled major enhancements to its industry-leading DriveWell Risk and DriveWell Crash & Claims Product Suites. These advancements include a simplified onboarding process, enhanced driver/passenger classification, and new crash detection models that deliver unprecedented accuracy across all crash severities. In addition, CMT is introducing new developer tools that make building safe driving experiences on the DriveWell Fusion® platform easier than ever.
CMT has measured the driving behaviors of over 40 million users to date. With its new streamlined onboarding process for Tag customers, drivers no longer need to take multiple steps to link their safe driving app with the Tag. They just stick the Tag to their windshield and CMT’s technology automatically links it to their account. These improvements make it easier than ever for users to activate their telematics program, increasing adoption rates and reducing support calls.
Creating a seamless driver experience is the foundation for any successful telematics program, which is why CMT continues to refine its algorithms that differentiate between drivers and passengers. In its latest update, CMT has introduced driver/passenger classifications with even higher accuracy. A recent University of Pennsylvania Medicine Nudge Unit study by independent researchers found CMT’s driver/passenger classifications to be 97% accurate.
Ensuring a smooth experience when users upgrade their smartphones is also key to the telematics experience. With this update, CMT has streamlined the process for transferring telematics accounts to new devices. This improvement ensures that users keep their discounts intact and insurers retain customers without disruptions when upgrading their devices.
More accurate crash models for all severity levels
CMT has enhanced its crash detection capabilities. New high-frequency crash models leverage advanced methodologies, similar to those used in large language models, to better understand the complexities and variances of real-world crashes. CMT’s newest crash model captures more crashes across all levels of severity, providing insurers with even more accurate data for improved claims processing and crash response.
Millions of people rely on CMT’s crash technology today, and CMT is working to ensure every driver has access to life-saving crash detection and emergency response. In this update, CMT has integrated Apple’s SafetyKit signals as an input into DriveWell Crash & Claims AI models, helping insurers expand their crash response and digital claims coverage. With the DriveWell Fusion® platform harmonizing driving data across platforms and devices, CMT is uniquely able to create a seamless consumer experience when both Apple® and CMT detect a crash.
CMT’s new Claims Exchange uses telematics data to provide insurers with a single view of multi-vehicle crashes involving two vehicles or drivers on the CMT platform. This view gives insurers an unbiased, data-rich reconstruction of the crash scene, allowing for faster and more precise investigations and liability decisions, accelerating the entire claims process. Policyholders receive quicker settlements and get back on the road faster.
Improved developer tools
With CMT measuring and protecting tens of millions of users around the world, developer-friendliness is key. CMT’s latest update introduces new tools to simplify development and streamline telematics program management:
Developers can now use the Flutter and React Native frameworks, allowing them to maintain a single codebase for both Android and iOS apps.
CMT’s latest reference app updates provide streamlined, best-practice guides for integrating key features such as CMT’s Crash Assistance, Eco Score, and Fuel Score, making them easier to deploy and maintain.
CMT has also enhanced its privacy management tools with a new API, simplifying data management and data privacy compliance for enterprises and app developers.
“Our latest advancements create seamless experiences for end users, enterprises, and app developers,” said Hari Balakrishnan, CMT’s co-founder and CTO. “Our crash models have been improving rapidly, fueled by ground truth from our IoT devices and by leveraging the latest advances in machine learning, while incorporating signals from Apple SafetyKit further improves coverage. And with our enhanced developer tools, accurate insights, and on-boarding and retention tools, it’s easier than ever to build large-scale safe-driving programs on the DriveWell Fusion platform to engage and delight users.”
