The Samsung Galaxy A55 might get AI features soon.
SamsungSamsung is planning to bring its Galaxy AI tools suite to even more phones, according to a new report.
Sources speaking with SamMobile claim that Samsung will bring select AI tools to its mid-range handsets, namely the Galaxy A35 and A55. If accurate, that means almost all of Samsung’s major 2024 devices will be AI-enabled.
The site doesn’t say which specific features will land on the mid-range handsets, but it won’t be all of them. Some Galaxy AI skills require more on-device processing and therefore haven’t made it to older devices. For example, Instant Slo Mo was excluded from the AI update that landed on the Galaxy S22 series earlier this year.

The AI features will be included in the One UI 6.1.1 update, which could land this month or next according to SamMobile. From a post on the company’s community forms, by a Samsung representative, we already know that Samsung plans to bring Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 exclusive features to older Samsung handsets through One UI 6.1.1.
Those features include Sketch To Image, which turns drawings into AI-generated pictures, and Motion Clipper, which creates gifs and stickers from motion pictures. It will be interesting to see if these make it to the A35 and A55, alongside existing tools such as Live Translate and Note Assist.
Samsung had previously hinted that the A54, A55 and A35 hadn’t been updated with Galaxy AI because of compatibility issues.

“At Samsung, we are prioritizing the best experience for our users and customers. To achieve this, we are ensuring compatibility is at the center of all future and current updates, and we are managing this across selected devices with the rollout of One UI 6.1.” The company told me in May.
I mused at the time that its policy on Galaxy AI distribution was still evolving as the company figures out what devices are technically capable, and if these features are popular with users. If SamMobile’s report is accurate then clearly both are true.
There’s also the ominous warning that Galaxy AI will be free only until 2025. Samsung could charge a subscription for them and therefore create a new tier for smartphone (and wearable) abilities. Adding the A35 and A55 to the list of phones with AI means more customers who could pay for that subscription. With that said, I suspect Samsung won’t confirm its pricing plans until it knows if Apple and Google will also paywall AI tools on their smartphones.
