The artificial intelligence boom is stirring a cultural shift in solutions companies. For QlikTech International AB, that shift has birthed strategic startup acquisitions, industry partnerships and feature announcements in data analytics for AI.
Data analytics for AI: Qlik Connect event recap with theCUBE’s analyst panel.
“When we talk about how to accelerate AI adoption, you can’t look for an easy button,” said Shelly Kramer (pictured, middle), principal analyst at theCUBE. “There are five key steps that you have to take, and that is bringing all your data together from any source, any target. So, data integration is key. The ability to trust your data is fundamental. You have to be able to provide access to that trusted data for everyone in the organization that needs it.”
Kramer spoke with fellow analysts John Furrier (right) and Savannah Peterson (left) at Qlik Connect, during an insights segment on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s livestreaming studio. They recapped the event’s key announcements and discussed the company’s focus on AI and expanded data analytics. (* Disclosure below.)
Data analytics for AI: Strategic announcements and acquisitions
The data industry is experiencing immense change due to gen AI’s current popularity. To get ahead of this sea change, Qlik has taken a few strategic steps, including acquiring the gen AI-powered, answer-as-a-service solutions company Kyndi Inc.
“The other thing that’s notable with Qlik is the Kyndi acquisition,” Furrier said. “They were in that class of the ChatGPTs, but they did it with data where ChatGPT was both more chatbot and user experience. Kyndi was a nice little addition to the Qlik portfolio. They already had Attunity, which we’ve been covering. They’ve been doing insights on data movement and the rest of the stuff that they had. So, Qlik has assembled the piece parts.”
Another hot-button topical area is governance, a crucial piece for ensuring the quality and usability of data. With gen AI, data governance has become even more critical, ensuring data is managed and utilized responsibly, according to Furrier.
“Data governance is the hottest thing, because it’s the most important requirement for data,” he said. “If you want to let data be freely available, whether it is vertically integrated or horizontally scalable, you need governance. You have to know what it is and be able to explain it. My takeaway is that the data business is looking a lot like the cloud native early days — some of the same conversations.”
